The Wimbish House: A Brief History
The Wimbish House has been a familiar Midtown Atlanta landmark since its completion in 1906, but not many are familiar with its romantic beginnings and history.
Commissioned by prominent attorney William A. Wimbish, the house was a gift for his new wife who, during their honeymoon, had fallen in love with the style of homes in the south of France. Talk about #couplegoals. The house was designed by renowned architect W.T. Downing and built out of white sandstone.
In 1919, the house was sold to the Atlanta Woman’s Club, one of oldest non-profit woman’s organizations in Atlanta. A beautiful ballroom was added to the house in the 1920s to allow more room for Club activities.
Today, the Wimbish House is as an award-winning premier event and wedding venue in Atlanta. The space combines the elegance of a French chateau with the warmth of Southern charm and hospitality to create a unique, intimate backdrop for Atlanta weddings and events.
